Gaston is a very smart and very sweet dog with good potential. He has learned many basic tricks quickly (sit, stay, shake, etc.), and is housetrained (with the occasional accident due to being territorial). He's generally a good dog and we think would make a great guard dog. Unfortunately, we do not have the funds or time to fix the issues he is presenting to us with. He has begun showing resource guarding of the kitchen and of his female owner to house guests. We, and the animal behaviorists we have consulted, believe with proper training and time, these issues could be mitigated or redirected to serve some people's goals, such as as a livestock guard dog or protective family dog. He is excellent on the leash and non-reactive on walks. For clarification, he is a good dog, but the resource guarding and distrust of guests is an impossible barrier for us for familial reasons. He will make a great addition to a family looking for a protective, loving, and loyal companion.
